He grew up in abject poverty in the notorious East side Chicago projects. He is the byproduct of a broken home. After his parents split, his mother worked three jobs to feed and clothe her five children. In spite of her efforts, the Gray’s were so poor they couldn’t afford the basics and were forced to sleep on the floor. When his mother had a heart attack, the industrious Farrah helped his family by selling, of all things; rocks. He picked up rocks, painted and sold them to neighbors as bookends, paperweights and doorstops. If you desire to get rich, take note of this; where there is a will, there is a way! Farrah obviously learned this weighty truth at the tender age of six! The only way to describe his bold innovative move is, simply awesome! About a year after that entrepreneurial coup, Farrah was walking around carrying homemade business cards that read "21st Century CEO." How prophetic! He would eventually co-found the Urban Neighborhood Enterprise Economic Club, which he and other Chicago youths used to encourage each other's entrepreneurial spirit. The club raised $15,000. Another obstacle… How Much Can One Young Man Take? One of his illustrious elementary teachers “I speak of her sarcastically of course,” told him at the tender age of seven to forget about his dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. She said I couldn't because I was poor and my family was poor," says Gray. Farrah says her attempt to break his spirit made him angry. In spite of all of those insurmountable obstacles, Gray defied the odds and became a millionaire by the time he was 14-years of age. He sold one of his ventures, Farr-Out Foods, which he started with his grandmother's recipe, for over a million dollars. In his first year, Farr-Out Foods generated more than $1.5 million in sales. Not bad for a kid who lived in poverty, emerged from a broken home and who had a professional discourager working diligently to dismantle his dream of becoming a 21st Century CEO. No doubt we will here much more from Dr. Farrah Gray.
